Artist Statement:
For my showcase, I wanted to include new techniques of ceramics I have never explored before, one being a teapot. After gaining inspiration from a tea set in the VMFA, I decided to create a full tea set with my own elemental appeal. I love the ocean, and I always have ever since I was a little kid, and I knew I wanted to incorporate that theme within each one of my projects. I decided to use a deep blue glaze on the outside of each of my work, and include a white-teal coloring on the inside of each of my pieces. The deep blue represents the outer reaches of the ocean, and the inside whitish-teal, represents the clouds, reflecting off of the oceans, surface. For the teapot and the sugar container, I included a sgraffito wave on each to include my passion for waves and for surfing. Hopefully my work allows you to escape to the ocean, like it has with me, and thank you for your time.
